Rev George Shand and his wife Margaret travelled out to Jerusalem at the end of March 2009, when George took up his new post as minister of St. Andrew’s Scots Memorial Church, Jerusalem with St. Andrew’s Church, Tiberias.
Both George and Margaret are excited at the prospect of 5 years living and working in Jerusalem, and experiencing the cultural and spiritual diversity of the Middle East. “Because our church has a continuing presence in Israel / Palestine,“ says George, “it has the opportunity, and a responsibility, to celebrate our wonderful faith heritage and to participate actively in the search for peace and reconciliation in the Middle East. It is a very complex environment, but I hope, as part of our team there, and in partnership with others, to contribute in a small but positive way to that search.”
George and Margaret have three grown-up children – Tim, Lindsay and Michael.

Nice Website. Well done!!

Hi George,
I am really enjoying your blog – I especially appreciated your piece on the Flotilla Attack. It helps to balance perspective and promote peace. Keep on, keeping on with your work. Take care, Hazel
George

Dear George, just to let you know that you are in our prayers from Milton of Camsie church. This is in a village north of Glasgow. I read yor lists of activities often and it reminds me of a holiday my husband and I had 10years ago in Israel. David, scousin live inNatanya then and we hired a car to tour Israel.
Now she is in Be,ersheva. Maybe we will be able to visit the War Memorial ourselves. We went to Sundayservice in your church and we saw the memorial plaque with George Stirling,s name. His mother Marigold Stirling still lives in the village. As you will know, he was the son of Sir George and Lady Stirling.
Interesting hearing about your visit to Jericho. When we were there, we could not get into the city–bit of an unrest at the time.
Hopefully on our next visit we willbe able to go there.
Hoping to visit David,s cousin this year, although we have not told her yet.
It would be lovely to meet you as we have watched your involvement inyour area and the work you are doing with great interest.
Regards Barbara
Dear George,
Just a quick hello this easter morning from Corby. I’m with the OTC studying for a theology degree and am researching the mission statement of my local church as a module for the course and found you through The Church of Scotland website. I have spent a couple of years in Israel, moshav work, milking cows and farming some years ago and got a go at Jerusalem too, which was great, I would love to join you there, so if you are need of help, don’t stop to think. Not long back in UK, where I was born in 1966, but grew up in South Africa.
